Addressing Loneliness and Enhancing Mental Well-being

Homesharing goes beyond providing affordable housing; it addresses the prevalent issue of loneliness among older adults. Research has shown that companionship has a direct impact on mental well-being, reducing feelings of isolation and fostering a sense of belonging. By welcoming a compatible housemate, older individuals find joy and purpose in daily interactions, leading to improved emotional health.

Affordability Without Compromising Quality of Life

One of the significant benefits of Homesharing is its affordability, offering a viable alternative to traditional care facilities. Families can ensure their loved ones receive companionship and support without the financial burden often associated with senior living arrangements. Homesharing provides an economical yet high-quality living option for older family members.

Practical Support and Shared Responsibilities

Homesharing isn't just about sharing living space; it's a collaborative effort where younger individuals contribute to the well-being of their older Householder. Whether it be assistance with household chores such as cleaning and changing the bins, or grocery shopping and supporting with meal prepping, this shared responsibility not only lightens the load for older individuals but also creates a supportive environment that promotes independence.

Security and Peace of Mind

Addressing concerns about safety is crucial when discussing Homesharing. At Homeshare North East we have a careful vetting process. As well as an initial application form and interview, we request references from both Householders and Homesharers. This helps us to find out a little more about the people we are looking to match. We carry out Enhanced Checks from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and provide regular ongoing support throughout the length of each match. We get to know our Householders (and very often their family members) and Homesharers face to face. This helps to understand people's needs and the type of person they would like to share their home with and live with.

We meet sharers face to face, so we can find out more about their needs and interests to help us match the right people together.

We want to match two people together who have shared interests and a genuine interest in living together. You’ll have the chance to meet up before making any decisions, so by the time your Homeshare match begins you will already know each other.

Strengthening Family Bonds Through Homesharing

Homesharing doesn't just impact the lives of older individuals; it extends its positive influence to their families. By facilitating a sense of security and well-being for older family members, Homesharing strengthens family bonds. Homesharing alleviates the stress on family caregivers and contributes to a more harmonious family dynamic.

Homesharing is more than a housing solution; it's a transformative experience that positively impacts the lives of older individuals and their families. From combating loneliness to providing affordable and secure living arrangements, the benefits of Homesharing extend far beyond the physical space shared. As families seek innovative and caring solutions for their older members, Homeshare North East stands out as a beacon of hope, fostering meaningful connections and improving the overall well-being of older individuals in our communities.
