Durham DH1

We have an opportunity for a Homesharer to live sociably in the heart of Durham City, only a short walk away from local amenities including shops, bars, restaurants, banks and public transport.

Our Householder is a 78 year old, retired female GP. She is an intelligent, polite and quiet lady who is looking for a studious person or young professional who is clean and tidy, can live sociably, enjoy conversations, spend time with and can cook and eat meals with her. She has travelled widely and enjoys singing, listening to classical music, reading, cycling and socialising with friends and family. The Householder would benefit from someone who enjoys cooking and is able to offer basic support with technological devices (e. g. mobile phone, television etc) although no specific technological skills are required.

The ideal Homesharer will be someone who enjoys quiet company. Ideally the sharer will be studying or a young professional who is able to have some free time during evenings, weekends and at times during the day to offer support and company. The Homesharer will be in their mid 20s or older and does not smoke.

The Property and Room

The home is spacious, light and airy townhouse, situated across 7 floors, with access to a small courtyard back garden and parking. It is located in Durham City Centre, in a fairly quiet residential area with excellent views of Durham Cathedral. The property is within walking distance to shops, cafes, a library, bars, restaurants, banks, a library and a cinema. The location has excellent transport links – with a bus station, train station and taxi rank only a short walk away.

The room available is situated on the ground floor and is a very spacious bedroom with a single bed (this can be changed to a double bed from another room in the property), currently furnished with a large desk, wardrobe and drawers. The ground floor also has a bathroom consisting of a shower, toilet, sink and storage. This bathroom would predominantly be used by only the Homesharer. There is direct access via the back door onto this floor via a utility area.

There is a separate lounge area on the floor above the bedroom which the Homesharer would be able to make use of. The Householder is happy for the kitchen, utility room, main lounge and second lounge to be used.

The Homeshare Agreement

As part of this low cost living arrangement you would live sociably and offer practical support and companionship in lieu of rent.

At Homeshare North East we look for a Homesharer who is able to share for a minimum of 6 months. After this time, if the Homeshare is working out it may be extended with the agreement of both parties, or if not, we can help you find another Homeshare match.

This is a position advertised on behalf of the Householder. Homeshare North East carry out reference checks on both parties and an enhanced DBS check on Homesharers prior to introducing you to each other. We have various policies in place to allow shares to take place and the safety of both parties is our primary priority.

Cost:

With an initial £100 registration fee and £300 per month, bills included. This is a monthly facilitation fee for our matching and ongoing monitoring service. You do not pay rent to the Homeowner.
